It was the last day of the Zac’s and mine trip to Munich, Germany and today was all about watching UEFA cup game in the evening between Bayern Munich and Aberdeen.
The day started slowly as we had no major plans before the big game this evening, and we spent most of the morning watching the biathlon on Germany Eurosport channel. It was gripping stuff… all that skiing, some shooting of a gun some more skiing, some more shooting, all against the clock, pulsating stuff…
We then headed into the city centre of Munich, to the Café Glockenspiel for a few quick pints for a bar which over looks the Marienplatz centre. After which we went outside to party with the Aberdeen fans!
The Marienplatz was a washed with Aberdeen fans, dressed in red Aberdeen tops and kilts, singing, dancing and partying away! Although Zac was more reluctant I dragged him to where most of the singing was coming from.
We joined in with the many 1000’s of Aberdeen fans singing Aberdeen songs such as Stand Free, One Man Went To Mow, etc
It was a real party atmosphere, but we needed to get ready ourselves before the game, so we didn’t stay as long as we hoped.
We then headed to the local supermarket too buy some German larger, although we didn’t think about how we were going to open the bottles, considering we didn’t have a bottle opener between us.
We realised that when we got back to the hotel room and it made for some interesting attempts to open the lagers.
We then headed to the Marienplatz underground station and we didn’t have any trouble about working out in which direction to go in this time. It was simple. We just followed the Aberdeen fans.
We were at the top of the escalator where we were greeted with Germany’s toughest skin head police men and army folk. Let the sing song begin! There was this German fan that held up an 1860 Munich scarf and the Aberdeen fans unleashed a “One team in Munich” chant.
We were eventually allowed down the escalator which was welcomed with a deafening roar and this quality sight unfolded of a sea of red travelling down the escalators! Greeting the Germans with a “Who are yaa!?” chant as they travelled up o the escalators.
Waiting for the train was such a laugh, singing many Aberdeen songs. Whilst waiting the board the train, all you could hear was “COME ON YOOOUU REDS” bellow out from all the fans, then when the train came we all clambered onto the train.
I was getting pushed back by a German policeman, to stop me going on the train, then a load of Aberdeen fans started pushing me onto the train, which resulted in the German police being sent flying.
Imagine a tube packed during rush hour, and then imagine it impossible to move within the carriage and that’s the situation you had. It was so packed I had to have my arms in the air.
It was absolutely brilliant. Jumping up and down with Aberdeen fans, singing Red and White army and Lucas Toni Is A Cunt and literally annoying all the German people on the train was priceless enough in itself.
There was this one Bayern fan that jokingly flicked the V with his fingers to the Aberdeen fans which sent them into raptors and another ear splitting “Who are ya?!” chant.
On the way to the Allianz Arena, each stop went buy with a chorus of “Here we go” as we left each U-bahn station.
There were a few stations where it took a while for the train to leave and this was met with the whole train carriage going “Oooooooooh” in anticipation of leaving for the next underground station.
I was sweating buckets and in need for a drink but I didn’t care.
As soon as we arrived at the station next to the Allianz Arena the station was still booming from the Scottish fans voices and all the way into the stadium we partied with the Aberdeen fans.
You could see the Allianz Arena from miles away and it was an impressive site. After getting searched before we entered the arena and it took my brilliant sense of direction and common sense to take us to our seats.
I was impressed at the sheer size of the Allianz Arena, and we were right at the back of the 3rd tier. Needless to say the view was still pretty impressive although I whished I was near some of Bayern Munich singers which were behind the goal in the first tier.
Seemed like most of the Bayern fans on where I was sitting were not the type of fans that get behind there team vocally.
I was surprised at how quite the Bayern fans were most of the time, although when they started singing “Stand up for the Bayern Munich” the whole ground joined in before returning to their seats and not singing.
I mean none of the fans stood up, not even when Bayern Munich got a corner. I really wished I was with the Aberdeen fans, which were partying throughout the game.
The game was dominated by Bayern Munich who won comfortably 5-1.
